Growth Mindset: For Careers, Relationships, and All Life Experiences
But what if we used our brainpower to challenge our minds even further, to have complete control over what happens to us on a daily basis, and to do all this for the betterment of our mind, heart, soul, and body?
After a LOT of reading and studying the words of Dr. Carol Dweck on growth mindset, I have come to the conclusion that having a growth mindset within the classroom is essential - not only for the well-being of the students, but for the teacher as well. Growth mindset is such a powerful tool in controlling personal experiences and challenges. In the course of a day, so many occurrences take place that are beyond a person's control. For example, a child throwing a temper tantrum, a staff member calling in sick, a student in a bad mood, a reckless driver running a neighborhood stop sign, and on and on and on. These are what we refer to as "uncontrollable's" - the happenings in life that you cannot predict, go back in time and change, or have any say over. I would like you to notice how I created them all to represent negative experiences that could take place at any moment of any day. THAT'S LIFE. Negative experiences take place all around us all the time. Their purpose...to bring us down, to defeat us in a challenge, but more importantly, to say game on! Notice a perspective change? Well, there is a trick to overcoming these negative's in life. Not so much a prank, but more like a researched game-plan to overcome any negative experience that one might encounter. I know, I know, get to the point already...the key to this magic scheme in the playing field of life is MINDSET.
Yes, mindset. Our human brains are so powerful and this often gets overlooked. As a society, we find our niche, our group of people, our hobbies, our routines, even our favorite rotation of dinners, and all the while our brain simply goes right along with the comfortable feeling this provides. Moreover, it is our brain that is making these decisions in the first place. But what if we used our brainpower to challenge our minds even further, to have complete control over what happens to us on a daily basis, and to do all this for the betterment of our mind, heart, soul, and body? What about doing this for the betterment of others as well?
As I start this journey in creating my own virtual educator's toolbox full of researched-based strategies and methods, growth mindset must come first. This is simply because this process of creating my first blog is portraying the beauty of growth precisely. My own knowledge and intelligence in the field of education will evolve and grow over time, and the underlying secret I will be using is to always have a growth mindset - to push my brainpower, to be purposeful, and to be reflective in nature as I transform for the better. For someone to be the best of the best, they must constantly have a hunger and drive for pursuing new discoveries and innovation, and most importantly, to share with others. For in the end, success does not lie in the greatness of one person's talents, but lies instead in the inspired, motivated, and team-oriented mindsets out there in the universe seeking growth.
